Hi this is Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com.
Today I am going to be showing you how to sew buttons onto various materials. Specifically I am going to show you how to mark the spot where the button is going to go. For instance on a pair of pants, let's say you have a pair of pants a little too loose on you and you need to tighten them up a bit. Instead of taking them to the tailor what you can do is while you are wearing the pants you want to see how they fit you and bring over the flap over the button to where you feel that it comfortably fits you. Then you want to take a measuring tape and measure the distance from the original button to where the button slot falls and in this case, it is an inch and half.
So now I am going to lay the pants flat on a flat surface and I am going to take the measure and measure again an inch and half from the original button to the new button location. I am going to take a sharpie and mark that spot on the tape measure. Now I have a spot where I know that the button is going to go into place and that it is going to fit comfortably once the button is attached.
