Transcript of This Video
Hi this is Aaron Fruitstone from Chi Martial Arts in Miami Shores, Florida. You can reach us on the web at www.chimartialarts.com. The next fundamental technique that you'll be learning is a walking stance as well as how to properly measure a walking stance. Walking stances are your basic stances on advancing and retreating and are geared mostly towards either attacking an opponent forward or retreating and defending. You're going to step forward first with your right leg, take a medium step, keep your feet should wide, your hands will come to your sides, front leg is bent slightly, rear leg is fully extended and locked, hands are just loosely clenched. You'll know that you have the right chest position if it's pointed straight ahead, in order to properly measure a walking stance, you're going roughly shoulder width, you're going to kneel down with your back leg, when you kneel down, that knee should be in the same line as the heel of the front foot. We call that a shoulder and a half, technically. Your rear foot should be turned out approximately 25 degrees, which is very slightly, that alleviates pressure from the calf and allows for an attacker to cave in your back leg without any damage to the Achilles tendon. At normal speed. We'll be back.
