Hi this is Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com and in this clip I'm going to be showing you how to remedy a hem on men's slack/cuff.

What happens normally is the hem will come undone. Hopefully not while you are out and about but usually before you go out or then next time you can stop it simply by grabbing the string that is coming undone and unraveling and you want to secure it so that it does continue. Typically at that point you would continue hemming it the rest of the way to take care of what might have already come undone since the hem has been loosened. The first thing you want to do is string up your thread and in this case I am using black thread just because the material is black to go along with it and I just want to get a small piece of thread roughly 6 inches in length, tie a knot in the bottom of it and then I want to thread the needle through the area of where the last part of the string is coming out.

So the first thing you want to do is you want to take the thread that is coming undone from the hem, take your needle and just thread it right into the part of the pants that it is coming undone, right next to it and pull it through until it stops. Then you want to take this loose thread from the hem and you want to wrap the needle around it and bring it through the loop that you create almost as if you are tying a knot with the same piece of thread. Then you pull that tight and when you do it will secure this thread so that it is not going to continue unraveling. At that point and time, you can cut the old part of the hem thread and now continue hemming what has come undone with the rest of the thread you just created
