Hi, this is Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com.
Today we are going to be discussing how to sew a button onto a polyester jacket that has a silk lining. The first thing you will need to know is how to mark the buttons where the buttons will go. Typically on jackets, what you want to do is if a button has come off and you want to sew it back on or sew another button on with a different color scheme which is a pretty common thing to do. Typically, the buttons on a men's long jacket is going to be 4 to 5 inches down from one another. So if you start from the top button and you measure 5inches down that should be where the next is. Typically if the buttons are at a different distance you can just measure between them to find out what the distance is for this particular garment and then just take that same distance and move it down to where the button came undone from. So this particular area is going to be 5 inches and I am going to take my sharpie and measure out that place on the jacket where the button should go.
Now once I have marked this area I am ready to begin choosing a color of thread that I am going to use and the thickness of the thread. We just need to see where the button is and where that lines up with the interior liner in which this case is silk. So it is actually going to be going through both the polyester and the silk which will determine the thickness of the needle and the length of thread that will need to secure the button into it.
