Hi, this is Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com and today I am going to be discussing how to sew on an eyelet clasp to the sleeve of a dress shirt.

Now a lot of times people have trouble with the whole one handed button of the cuff. So if that is the case, what I tell a lot of my clients is the best way of doing this is to sew on a button clasp which is something most of you are familiar with most likely. It is just a form of snapping together a button that you can just pull apart and it comes right undone. It is a lot easier than actually having more dexterity in your finger is to feed the button through a slot. So typically what you want to do to measure for this is find out where the button is on the shirt currently and you just want to take a pair of scissors and you want to remove it ideally but if you want to leave it there, that's fine. You would just go directly adjacent to the button and you want to take your other clasp and you want to measure using the clasp itself because all clasps vary in sizes.

So you want to just take the side of the clasp that has the extruding point and there is another side that has an indentation. Now they will fit into one another and snap shut. So you want to take this side that has the extruding point on it and that is going to become the button. So you want to put it directly adjacent to the button but leave a little bit of room so I would say maybe a centimeter away from it would be absolutely ideal. Then you want to take a sharpie and you want to go on the back side of it and put a dot directly in the middle. After that you want to do the same thing on the other side. You can use the button actually since you did that to line up by just buttoning the button and this will cause the sleeve become even along the edge. Then you just want to take the same area that you marked before on the back side and you want to just place it adjacent to the sleeves. You want to fold it over and then place another mark directly adjacent to it on the other side and let's say mark the button and once you do that you are ready to sew it on.
