Hi this is Jeff Isbell on behalf of ExpertVillage.com.

Knowing your way around the guitar part two. I don't want too much time on this, I don't want to spend any time on this, but we have to make sure you know this before we can go on. So learn this once and for all, and we won't have to talk about it anymore. Now this is how you find your notes on frets. Every fret you move up, raises the note one half step, so if you fret your E string on the first fret, it is raised up to F, up one more fret and you come to a note called either F sharp or G flat, depending, not in this course, look it up. Or if you really want to learn about that here, email expertvillage.com and let them know.

Now you ought to be able to figure out where all the notes are on all the strings, but you know you won't, you'll mean to, but something will get in the way. So at least learn the notes on five and six, up to the twelfth fret. Why? I can't tell you right now. Ask me after lesson five, it'll make sense then. There are a couple landmarks you can start with though to help you find notes. Does your guitar have fret markers? You know, those little dots you see here. Mine doesn't I have dots along the top of the neck, but I can see them and they tell me where the third fret is, and the fifth fret and the seventh fret and the ninth fret and the twelfth fret without having to look around. Well, you probably already know that the fifth fret on the low E, makes an A. So A flat or A sharp, should be easy to find. The dot on the seventh fret helps you find the note B, back down on the third fret you find a G. On the fifth string you find third fret, the note C, on the fifth fret the note D, on the seventh fret you find E. Learn them, practice them and get back to me. See ya.
